Is Your Current Contact Lens Suitable for You?

Are your current contact lenses the most suitable for you and your lifestyle?
Here is a checklist of 3 simple things to determine if your current contact lens is a good match for you.

1Comfort

Comfort is crucial as it may affect the way you perform. Comfort has 3 major dimensions:
Initial comfort -

This is comfort when you first put it on

End-of-day comfort - This refers to how your eyes feel with the lenses towards the end of the day
End-of-use comfort - Comfort of the lenses as they are about to be replaced; this is more applicable to monthly / bi-weekly disposable contact lenses or yearly conventional lenses as proteins, lipids and debris accumulate as part of lens wear

Comfort

A good pair of lenses should feel good when you first put them on, towards the end of the day, and even towards the end of its use. If you feel any discomfort please consult your optometrist, who may recommend alternative lenses.

Your eyes must always feel good when it come to lens wear. Do not tolerate uncomfortable lenses, as it may be a sign of changes in your eyes.

2Convenience

Convenience is defined as:

  • The ease of care regimen
  • The availability of spare lenses if yours gets torn or lost
  • How lenses can enhance your lifestyle

4Vision

Vision relates to how well you can see with contact lenses. If your vision is not clear, there could be a few possibilities:

  • Change in vision correction needs
You may be wearing a contact lens corrected only for near-sightedness (Myopia), but you may require astigmatism correction as well, thus your vision maybe blurred when wearing your lenses.
  • Change in contact lens quality
Proteins, lipids and debris accumulate as part of lens wear, and they may sometimes contribute to poor vision. Make sure you wear the lenses according to the recommended wearing schedule and ensure you have a good cleaning regimen.

It is important to go to your Optometrist for an eye health after check every 6 months to ensure that your vision is not affected by other causes.

When you see better, you perform better. A good pair of contact lenses can really enhance your daily performance, so make sure your current contact lenses are right for you!
