1982 Frontier Contacts (Founded in Buffalo, N.Y. in 1959) is renamed Vistakon, the manufacturer of ACUVUE® brand contact lenses.
1987 ACUVUE® disposable contact lensVistakon makes vision correction history when the ACUVUE® Contact Lens, the world's first disposable contact lens, is introduced in Florida.

1990 ACUVUE® becomes the world's number one prescribed contact lens worldwide and is launched in Asia Pacific. Heralded as another breakthrough innovation, ACUVUE® is the first daily wear lens to provide patients with the comfort and convenience of replacing lenses every two weeks.

1 • DAY ACUVUE® contact lensesWith an enormous investment in technology, Vistakon announces the test-market introduction of 1•DAY ACUVUE®, the world's first daily disposable contact lens. Eye Care Professionals can now offer patients the ultimate option in contact lens wear - the most convenient, healthy way of wearing contact lenses with fresh, new, sterile lenses each and every day.

1997

Vistakon achieves the distinction of being the manufacturer and marketer of the first, second and third best-selling contact lenses worldwide: ACUVUE®, SUREVUE® and 1•DAY ACUVUE®, ACUVUE® is further enhanced with the addition of an inside-out mark (A V).

1999

Vistakon introduces ACUVUE® 2 with contour intelligent design, which provides exceptional handling and excellent comfort. Vistakon is later renamed Johnson & Johnson Vision Care (JJVC).

ACUVUE® TORIC Brand Toric Contact LensesACUVUE® TORIC debuts in Australia & New Zealand - the first dual, thin zone, two-week replacement toric lens. ACUVUE® TORIC features Constant Stabilization Design with an ultra-thin, independent optic zone for outstanding visual acuity.

2004 ACUVUE® ADVANCE™JJVC introduces ACUVUE® ADVANCE® in Australia & New Zealand – Using an innovative HYDRACLEAR® technology which delivered the first non-surface coated silicone hyrdogel contact lens.
2005 JJVC introduces ACUVUE® ADVANCE® FOR ASTIGMATISM in Australia & New Zealand – The breakthrough Accelerated Stabilisation lens Design brought freedom to patients with Astigmatism. ACUVUE® ADVANCE® FOR ASTIGMATISM becomes the number 1 selling disposable contact lens for Astigmatism in the US within 12 months of launch.

2006

ACUVUE® OASYS® with Hydraclear® PLUSJJVC introduces ACUVUE® OASYS® with HYDRACLEAR® Plus & 1•DAY ACUVUE® MOIST® in Australia & New Zealand. ACUVUE® OASYS® with HYDRACLEAR® PLUS uses a superior asterisk innovative HYDRACLEAR® Plus technology that gives contact lenses a unique and silky soft feel* even in challenging environments. 1•DAY ACUVUE® MOIST® uses a proprietary technology that creates a moisture cushion throughout the lens, providing patients with fresh comfortable lenses all day long.

2007

JJVC launches 1•DAY ACUVUE® for ASTIGMATISM Brand contact lenses giving patients clear vision and superior comfort in a Daily Disposable for Astigmatism.

2008

JJVC launches ACUVUE® OASYS® FOR ASTIGMATISM combining the technology of ACUVUE® OASYS® and the Accelerated Stabilisation Design, these lenses remain positioned regardless of activity giving patients crisp, stable vision.

2009

1•DAY ACUVUE® TruEye® launches in Australia and New Zealand. The world's first silicone hydrogel daily disposable contact lens, made with HYDRACLEAR® 1 technology which means an ultra smooth and wettable lens, patients can now experience greater end of day comfort and whiter eyes, even if they wear their contact lenses for long hours.
